CARTER COUNTY, OK -- An Ardmore man was arrested Christmas Night after police say he tried to smuggle contraband into the Carter County Jail.

Thirty-year-old Robert Dorsey II faces charges of Trying to Bring Contraband Into a Penal Facility and Obstruction.

Investigators say one of their officers saw Dorsey Standing close to the jail and when the officer tried to make contact Dorsey took off.

Police say they are still figuring out what the contraband was but, they say there is a reason certain items are restricted to inmates.

"Contraband being brought into the facilities, it's dangerous to the other inmates and it's dangerous to the guard staff," Ardmore Police P.I.O. Sgt. Ryan Hunnicutt said. "Even if the items themselves seem harmless such as a cell phone or tobacco or any of those things. It becomes something that's argued over and can cause fights."

Ardmore Police, OHP, and the Sheriff's department all took part in the arrest.
