ADA, OK -- ECU and SOSU are going head to head this week in the Best of the East blood drive.
The competition is hosted by the Oklahoma Blood Institute, and kicked off today at ECU.
Both schools will host two day blood drives on campus to try to beat the other with the most blood donations.
The winner will receive a banner at the ECU and SOSU football game.
Blood Institute officials say they expect over 200 donations at ECU, but hope to receive more.
"So there's only seven percent of the United States population that donate blood, and so anything we can kind of do to drive those numbers up," OBI Mobile Phlebotomist, Tonya Kaapke, said. "Everybody knows the importance of saving lives with those blood donations, and then of course, the competition and the rivalry is always a big thing."
The ECU blood drive will continue tomorrow from 9 a.m. 4 p.m. in the ECU ballroom.
SOSU's blood drive will begin tomorrow on campus.
