SHERMAN, TX -- A local Texoma non-profit gave out some confidence along with back to school gear Thursday.

Thursday, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Grayson County helped kids like Jaelynn Grant prepare to head back to school.

"I feel pretty excited," said Grant.

The kids in the program and their siblings, all got backpacks filled with pens, pencils, notebooks and other necessities. All collected during the group's school supply drive in July.

Parents like Julia Kennedy say they are thankful for the help.

"I think they're great because when you're in a low income family, all of the school supplies. It really takes a lot out of you. [...] it's still very expensive to pay for everything they need for school sometimes its just outrageous sometimes and when organizations like this are able to help you out, it's a miracle," said Kennedy.

With the help of companies in the community; like Caterpillar, Cigna, Landmark Bank, Kohls, Kroger, Texoma Teachers Fed Credit Union, Pamela Moor Dentistry, and Tyson, Big Brothers Big Sisters were able to help 75 kids.

"We do recognize that our kids are in need of school supplies. So, this is one way for us to help them be prepared on their first tday of school and feel confident and be encouraged that they can do well in school that year," said CJ Jenkins, VISTA Leader/Community Recruiter for Big Brothers Big Sisters.

Families say it's not just the new tools, it's the confidence those tools give them that will help their kids succeed.
