DENISON, TX-A confrontation after a varsity basketball game at the Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club Thursday night ends with one woman hurt and police looking for the woman who beat her.
The Salvation Army Boys and Girls club called for a meeting Friday to talk about the fight involving two parents Thursday night. They wouldn't let us into the meeting, but an eyewitness tells us that the brawl happened in front of dozens of children.
The fight happened at around 9:00 Thursday night after a youth basketball game at the Salvation Army Boys and Girls club. The victim, the mother of a basketball player, told Denison police that a mother of an opposing team member got upset that they lost the game. She said the suspect, who she didn't know, grabbed her sweatshirt, pushed her to the ground and beat her repeatedly.
Police said the suspect then took off with the victim's cell phone and keys. An eyewitness told us that a little girl was crushed during the brawl.
Denison police Lt. Mike Eppler said they don't see many fights involving parents after a game, but adults need to watch their behavior when they're around children.
"Adults need to remember, number one, children are present and what kind of example are you setting for your children? And also, it's just a game. We as adults need to be positive role models for our kids," he said.
Eppler said the victim sustained minor injuries and they're still trying to identify the suspect.
