POTTSBORO, TX -- Excited locals crowded into a tent to witness the grand opening of Brookshire's Wednesday.
Brad Brookshire, Brookshire's chairman, said they're shocked by the community's outpouring of excitement.
"On my desk, there's a notebook about 'that thick' full of letters and emails from folks in the Pottsboro area that wanted a Brookshire's store," he said.
It's one of the many things about Pottsboro that caught their attention, Brookshire said.
"We've never seen a city that's done as much for us as what Pottsborro has," he said. "Hopefully it's a true partnership. We've gotta hold up our end, because Pottsboro's just been fantastic."
Bobby Hancock, chamber of commerce president said it's an important bag for the city.
"This is something Pottsboro has needed for a long time," he said. "I believe it's something that will expand commerce and business in our community for a long time to come."
After the 10 a.m. ribbon cutting, the eager crowd carted in to checkout the new building.
Like many residents, Joe Henderson used to have to drive into Denison to sack his groceries.
"We were here for the ground breaking, and now we're here for the grand opening," he said. "So this is a God-send for us, we live north up on the peninsula."
Hancock said it's a big day for everyone in the community.
"We're like kids at Christmas, and that doesn't even begin to describe it," he said. "We can shop in our own community and not have to go 10 or 12 miles down the road."
The new store is 3,700 square feet and brings in more than 100 jobs.
But Brookshire hinted today they're already hoping to expand in the future.
