CALERA, OK - They city of Calera has taken a big step towards going green.
Today the Choctaw Nation dropped off a large roll-off recycling bin in the Calera First Baptist Church parking lot at the corner of 3rd and Ryan Street across from the elementary. It's the first recycling bin the town has ever had. Last month the Choctaws approached the city with the idea and the council immediately jumped on board. The bin is one of 26 placed all over the Choctaw nation, and recycling coordinator Cyndi Houser says the program is still expanding.
"We've been doing this for a year and a half," said Houser. "We officially opened the doors of the building about a year ago and we've been going strong ever since."
A list of recyclable materials is on the side of the new bin. Houser says there is no charge to the city for the service.
