DURANT, OK -- Campaigning is underway for candidates running for Oklahoma State Schools Superintendent.
Candidate Joy Hofmeister addressed Bryan County educators and residents Tuesday.
Hofmeister is from the Tulsa area, and will run in a primary election in June against current state superintendent Janet Barresi.
She says her experience on the state school board made her realize the State Department of Education should be more open to suggestions from teachers and superintendents.
"My differences with our current administration are really not as much about policy differences, as it is about process. We have to work together," Hofmeister said. "I believe we can move Oklahoma forward when we are working together. Building up and not tearing down."
Bennington Schools Superintendent, Donna Anderson, is also running for the office as a Democrat.
A few of Anderson's priorities are testing and school safety.
Anderson will discuss her plans at the Durant Library Saturday, September 21st from 2 to 4 p.m.
