SHERMAN, TX - If you were driving along Texoma Parkway this morning you might have noticed a big, blue helicopter hovering over Midway Mall. That's because the mall was having some air conditioning units replaced.
Workers say because the units are located near the center of the mall on the roof and there aren't any cranes in the area long enough to safely transport the 20 ton hunks of metal, they used the chopper. The helicopter lifted the units off of the parking lot and carried them over to their locations on the roof.
Danny Reynolds with Reynolds Air Conditioning Service says getting the units hooked up to the harnesses while a helicopter hovers 40 feet above is a pretty intense experience, but it's the only way to get the job done.
"Yeah it's pretty safe. The helicopter pilot gave us pretty specific instructions on how to hook the cables up and make sure that it's fastened good where nothing would slip off," Reynolds said.
In all, three air conditioning units were replaced
