Community members plan to clean up beaches of Lake Texoma

LAKE TEXOMA --Saturday morning, community members are invited to come out to Lake Texoma and clean up the beaches.

Several local organizations will be sponsoring the first Lake Texoma Trash Bash - Beaches on a Mission.

Volunteers will be assigned to pick up trash and clean different beaches and parts of the lake.

Event coordinators say with the drought and low lake levels, there are more beach areas around Lake Texoma that need to be cleaned.

"We wanted to clean up the beaches because the lake is like part of the family, and everybody comes out and enjoys it, local and from out of town," said Rebecca Backschies, event coordinator. "As the water levels decrease you can see barrels and old rusted cans."

The clean up will start at 9 AM and anyone wanting to help should meet at the Preston Shores Volunteer Fire Station on Highway 289.
