DENISON, TEXAS -- Construction is underway on the new hotel convention center off Highway 75 and FM 691 in Denison.
Mayor Jared Johnson says the Hilton will fill the need for a regional conference center, to draw people from all over to Denison.
The new center will generate hotel/motel tax, property tax and sales tax revenue for the city, and with the expansion of 691, Johnson says that area is becoming a great gateway hub for Denison.
"Several years in the making: the community's been waiting. We made the announcement right before the economy hit the tank in 2008; lending dried up. Got a new developer in Denson and his partners, and finally dirt's moving," Johnson said.
The city contributed about $4 million in incentives to get the hotel convention center to come to Denison.
Construction should be complete by the end of 2014.
