Denison man hit by car along FM 84

DENISON, TX - A Denison man had to be flown by helicopter to the hospital after being hit by a car Wednesday morning.

It happened just before 6 a.m. about three hundred yards west of the FM 84 and State Highway 91 intersection in Denison. Police say 29 year-old Stephen Gaffney was walking along FM 84 to his job at the Sign Warehouse. He attempted to cross the highway to the eastbound side and was struck by an oncoming car.

Gaffney was unconscious when paramedics arrived. He was flown by helicopter to Medical Center of Plano. No word on his condition, but we're told by hospital staff that he's in the critical care unit.
