SHERMAN, TEXAS -- The Discovery Channel was here in Sherman at Wakefield Elementary School today, getting kids excited about science.

An entity of the TV channel called Discovery Education honored the district for using their digital education programs in the classroom.

Wakefield Elementary School teacher Sabrina Blankenship was also awarded for being the 500 millionth user to access their online resources.

Discovery Education is filming at the district today and tomorrow for a video about how SISD uses their digital learning tools.

"You can access our textbook from anything, even from a Blackberry or an iPhone or from a computer at home, so it's really kind of moving education outside of the four walls of the school," Discovery Education Director of Textbook Sales Brett Felten said.

Some Sherman ISD students use Discovery Education's digital science textbook.
