DURANT, OK -- Durant is restructuring city government adding an additional assistant city manager position.
City Manager Jim Dunegan said the council approved a plan this week to divide the government into 2 parts: public works and financial.
Tthey won't add an additional person, but they'll add the title of assistant manager to an existing department head, he said.
Current assistant manager Ralph Houser will manage the public works department, Dunegan said. They've also been consolidating duties and eliminating some positions as employees resign, he said.
"We have lots of needs. It's a fast growing city, and it's kind of hard to keep up with. and I think this an opportunity to spread ourselves out a little bit more and do a little bit more for the citizens of Durant," Dunegan said.
Dunegan expects to make an announce on who the new assistant will be by the first of the year.
