DURANT, OK - The Durant Chamber of Commerce celebrated its centennial Thursday afternoon by sending pieces of history into the future.

Durant city leaders gathered at the chamber office to commemorate the agency's 100th anniversary and take part in burying a time capsule. Chamber executive director, Janet Reed, said the capsule contains memorabilia from the past 100 years, as well as pictures, programs, t-shirts and business cards from current members.

"I hope that this will bring awareness of what the chamber has meant to this community for 100 years. The strength of the chamber, the durability and the endurance of our community," she said.

Reed said the plan is to unearth the time capsule in 50 years. That'll be 2060.
