DURANT, OK-Durant football players and fans got pumped up Thursday night for their first game of the season.
Friday, the Lions take on the McAlester Buffalos. Durant football head coach Byron Cordell is optimistic about his team this year and said, while McAlester is a challenging opponent, the Lions are ready to take on the Buffalos.

"Well it's going to be tough, McAlester's top five in the state. They got 19 starters back from a 10-2 football team and they're a well coached team as we'll play all year. It's going to be a great challenge for us, but with great challenge comes great opportunity," he said.

The Durant and McAlester game will kick off at 7:30 Friday night at SOSU's Paul Laird Field.
