RAINS COUNTY, TX -- A former Fannin County deputy was indicted on a charge of animal cruelty after shooting a dog last month on a burglary call while working as a Rains County deputy.

Jerrod Dooley told the owner of the 2-year-old blue heeler that the dog charged him and he had to shoot her.

Dooley admitted in an interview that he's a dog lover and that he wishes things would have ended differently.

Dooley lost his job as a Rains County deputy and faces up to two years behind bars.
