FANNIN COUNTY, TX-- Fannin County is looking to make their courthouse a little safer. Emergency Management Coordinator Darrell Brewer wants the courthouse to be as secure as possible in the event of an emergency. "The thing I'm trying to accomplish is that our employees are aware of what they should do before something occurs, whether it's a tornado, or a fire, or a public safety event."

The four doors at the court house are unlocked during business hours, and there is no security system, which makes some employees feel uneasy, but officials are working on a solution.

The safety plan also includes information on tornado safety and the possibility of converting rooms in the basement into safe rooms in the event of a tornado.

Brewer suggests employees have a pre-determined meeting point and escape route in case of a fire.

The plan is in it's final draft stage, and will be presented at next week's Fannin County Commisioner's Court meeting..where it will either be accepted or sent back for revisions.

If accepted, employees will begin training with the new safety practices immediately.
