SHERMAN, TX - A fire in Sherman damaged a home and killed two family pets Wednesday morning.

The home in the 1400 block of LaSalle Drive near North Point Drive caught fire just before 8 o'clock. Sherman firefighters were able to quickly contain the fire to the back bedroom. The family, including a young child, escaped without injury, but the family's two dogs didn't make it out.

Fire Chief Jeff Jones says they were able to save the structure but the home did suffer significant damage.

"A single family dwelling, and we believe the cause of the fire was accidental. No injuries and we're putting about a $20,000 fire loss," Sherman Fire Chief Jeff Jones said.

Jones says the fire was started accidentally in the bedroom closet.
