SHERMAN, TX-Dozens of Sherman firefighters got their hands dirty during some special training Thursday. Members of Technical Rescue Team are practice trench rescues, by learning how to prevent a trench collapse while recovering a victim.

Sherman fire division chief, Thomas Brown said trench rescues are different from other rescues because they take longer and the elements play a big factor. Brown said they haven't had to perform a trench rescue before, but the training will help them prepare for when they do.

"The city of Sherman and the fire department wants to stay proactive and keep our members as strong in education and ready to respond to any type of emergency that we may be presented," he said.

Firefighters will simulate a rescue situation tomorrow.
