GAINESVILLE, TX - Chance's Haven, a non-profit dog rescue kennel in Gainesville, is asking for the publics help.
Chance's currently houses 12 dogs, many of which had to be nursed back to health. The shelter wanted to build 4 new concrete kennels to protect the dog's during this upcoming storm season, but were unable to because of problems with a contractor. Their current kennels were damaged in a previous storm and are being held together with duct tape. Chance's Haven Director Karen Holland says upkeep on the make-shift kennels is expensive and they were afraid they were going to have to close. But because of a huge outpouring of support on facebook, they decided to remain open. But Holland fears that it is now too late to get the new kennels built before severe storm season.
"This is a big concern. You know one good wind or a good old Texas straight-line and we're going to lose kennel roofs," Holland said. "It's possibly going to take down the fencing and things."
