GRAYSON COUNTY, TEXAS -- The Grayson County Sheriff's Office has added a second chief deputy to their department.
Chief Deputy Tom Rains was promoted to that position at Tuesday's Commissioner's Court.
He serves alongside current Chief Deputy Ron Brown.
Rains has been with the department since the 80s. Back then, he was commissioned to tackle a drug problem in the county.
Sheriff Keith Gary says the new title is well deserved.
"I need his leadership. It's just one of those things you want to utilize the abilities and strengths that an officer has and he has those abilities and he's earned the right to serve as the chief deputy."
Commissioners approved allowing the sheriff's office to use $3,200 dollars of their budget for the position.
