Grayson Co. Sheriff's Office promotes 12-year employee

SHERMAN, TX -- A twelve year employee of the Grayson County Sheriff's Office is celebrating a promotion. Corporal Joe Ross was promoted to Sergeant in the Enforcement Division Wednesday morning.

Ross has served at the Sheriff's Office since 1995 in several different departments. Named the 2011 Deputy of the Year, Ross just received his Bachelors degree from Texas A&M. The father of three says he appreciates all the opportunities the justice center has given him.

"I look forward to doing the best job that I can in my new position with the support of my shift and my family. I just hope to do a great job," said Sergeant Ross.

The new Patrol Sergeant begins his role as shift supervisor on September 1st.

Joe Ross began his career with the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office in November of 1995 in the Corrections Division as a Corrections Officer.

While in Corrections, he attended the Texoma Regional Police Academy in 1999 becoming a certified Deputy Sheriff, and attained the rank of Sergeant in Corrections.

In August of 2001 he transferred to the Enforcement Division in the Patrol Section as a Patrol Deputy.

He remained in that capacity until June of 2006 when he transferred into the Criminal Investigations Section. During his time in Criminal Investigations, he was assigned as a Criminal Investigator and Narcotics Investigator.

He remained in Criminal Investigations until July of 2007 when he transferred back to the Patrol Section as a Patrol Deputy.

Joe was promoted to the rank of Corporal in June of 2009 and remained in that capacity until August 29, 2012 when he was promoted to Sergeant.

Joe received the Deputy of the Year award for 2011, currently holds a Master Peace Officer’s License and recently (August 2012) graduated from Texas A&M Commerce with a Bachelors Degree in Business.
