GRAYSON COUNTY, TEXAS -- County commissioners say they usually declare a burn ban if the drought index hits 600.
Fire Marshal Kevin Walton says it reached 652 today.
Walton says the 14-day forecast shows the index will get up to 727.
He adds that while outdoor burning isn't allowed, you can still barbeque.
"No outdoor burning. No trash barrels. No brush piles. Of course you can still cook, as long as its attended. Welders can weld as long as they have a fire watch and water on-hand," Walton said.
Walton says he expects the county will be in a burn ban for a while.
