Grayson County grassfire burns 50 acres

GRAYSON COUNTY, TX -- Several dozen acres went up in flames just west of Sherman Thursday.

Southmayd Fire says it took 7 departments to fight the grass fire off of Washington and Gibbons Road.

No homes or other buildings were threatened, but 50 acres burned.

Crews were able to contain it in about an hour.

"Well anytime you have you know these increased temperatures and low humidities and increased wind speeds like we've been seeing, it always brings the threat up. We've had a pretty fortunate summer so far, we haven't had as bad as we were last year," said Hunter Nichols, Southmayd Fire Chief.

Fire officials say they don't know what caused the fire.
