SHERMAN, TX - One of America's most wanted, a convicted sex offender on the run for 12 years, is now sitting in the Grayson County Jail.

64 year old James Willis Brown is in Grayson County Jail after being arrested in Missouri last week. District Attorney Joe Brown says it's been a long time coming.

"He's been the number one fugitive on our list ever since I got here. e skipped town before I took office, and we have done several things over the years to try to renew interest and find new leads," said Brown.

In April of 1999 James Willis Brown sat in a Grayson County Court as he was convicted of aggravated sexual assault of a 12 year old child.
He failed to appear for his sentencing, and was sentenced to life in prison in his absence. Joe Brown says they believe he had been living under the radar in rural Missouri for several years, using a fake name.

His case had been featured on America's Most Wanted several times and one mistake got him caught after all these years.

"He made the mistake of leaving documents around his house that had his name on it, and a woman who lived with him in the house mentioned the name to a neighbor, and the neighbor ran it on America's Most Wanted and on the internet and found his history and called America's Most Wanted and called the sheriff's office up in Missouri," said Brown.

District Attorney Brown says on November 22 they transferred Brown to Grayson County Jail, where he will wait to be transferred into the prison system to serve his life sentence.
