DENISON, TX-- For 16 years, President, Dr. Alan Scheibmeir and Student Life Director, Gregg Miles, have been working together at Grayson County College.
One of their biggest projects was the construction and renovation of the Life Center.
"I worked with Dr. Scheibmeir and his committees on that group," Miles said.
Dr. Scheibmeir recently announced his retirement.
"He's been here a long, long time and his represented us well. And at some point, I know he is looking forward to those years that he can spend with his family," Miles said.
The search for a new president is already under way. The Grayson College Board of Trustees has hired a consulting firm to help.
"We are really trying to get a big diversity within our pool. We want men, we want women, we want different races, we want lots of different backgrounds and things like that. We are really hoping to have a very full pool to look at," explained Shelle Cassell.
She is the Director of Public Information and said staff and students are sad to see their president go, but they look forward to a bright future with a new leader.
Applications will be accepted until April and the college plans to pick a new president by June.
"It's always nice to have what you are use to, because our current president Dr. Scheibmier has some huge strengths and the people skills and his ability to see what's happening. But it's always fun to hear the new ideas that are coming in and what's ahead," Cassell said.
Miles said Grayson County College is at a great place right now. Enrollment is up and the college keeps expanding, but there is always room for improvement.
"We want to do better, at what we do. We are hoping that that person will be able to bring that freshness and that vision and that energy and bring the whole team together and meet that goal," Miles said.
