ARDMORE, OK -- In the postal business many employees prepare for today as the busiest of the year. FedEx expected to handle more than 17 million packages today, up nine percent from last year.

Christmas is only 13 days away and today is the second Monday of the month what some call "Green Monday" considered to be the last safe day to order online where gifts will come just in time for Christmas when using standard shipping; however, it is not only FedEx who has been kept busy. Local postal services all over Texoma were on their toes all day.

Mindy Hightower says with Christmas right around the corner there is no time to waste. That is why she took time today to send out the last of her gifts, more than 30 Christmas cards.

"I've got a lot of family out of state, and I wanted to make sure they got there on time," Hightower said.

With all her Christmas shipping done Hightower says she has one less thing to worry about.

"I'm ready just to have it done so I can relax a little bit," Hightower said.

Desiree McGarity, Manager of "Goin' Postal" in Ardmore says today is one of their busiest days of the year not only because people are placing orders online, but coming in to send off their gifts to assure they will make it to their destination on time. McGarity says today they shipped out more than 350 packages in less than seven hours.

"It's the best time to ship because it kind of guarantees that they will get it there. Usually when you wait for next Monday your kind of running out of options," McGarity said.

McGarity says the hustle and bustle does not end after today.
She says the postal workers and delivery drivers all work hard to
help last minute shippers get their gifts to their loved ones just in the nick of time.

"They're all very good about still getting it there because they know everybody wants their packages by Christmas, and they do their best to do that," McGarity said.

If you still have not shipped out your gifts yet and are wanting them ready to open on Christmas morning McGarity suggests that getting them sent out this week is your safest bet.
