BONHAM, TX - An exciting day in Bonham as the community celebrates the groundbreaking of a new hotel.
The Holiday Inn Express coming to Bonham will be the City's first, full-service hotel.
"This is the biggest thing to happen to Bonham for many years," said Bonham Mayor Roy Floyd.
Thursday, Mayor Floyd, along with other city officials and hotel owner GK Reddy, broke ground at the site of the future hotel.
"I've been saying it, the Mayor's been saying it, people have been thinking about it, wishing for it for a long time, and now it's happening, and it's proved positive it's happening right here behind me, it's an exciting day!," said city manager Bill Shipp.
"I mean I have done like 3 or 4 hotels before this is the best one I've ever done, [the city is] easy to work with, get the answers right away, after hours, before hour, get the answers we need right away--anything we need they were able to give it to us," said GK Reddy, owner of the Holiday Inn Express.
Reddy's worked closely with the city and the county for many months, he says he chose Bonham because he likes the people in the community.
"We fell in love with Bonham. We love this place. We love the people. I am excited to get going and get this done," said Reddy.
The Holiday Inn Express will have 65 rooms, a community room, an indoor pool, and wifi. Reddy says he expects the $5 million project to be up and running in November or December, just in time for the holidays.
"We've got lots of industry coming in to Bonham right now so it's a great time to have a new Holiday Inn Express," said Mayor Floyd.
Reddy plans to build a second extended-stay hotel in Bonham, once this project is finished.
