JOHNSTON COUNTY, OK - Investigators say a Johnston County woman found dead inside her home this morning was murdered.
The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation says 66-year-old Carol Mowrer was found dead inside her home on Lake Estate Road outside Tishomingo around 8 Wednesday morning.
The Johnston County Sheriff's Office requested OSBI assistance. Agents think she was killed yesterday. Investigators at this point haven't determined a motive, and so far no arrests have been made.
The OSBI, along with sheriff's deputies, searched the house looking for any evidence to explain what happened. OSBI's Jessica Brown said investigators are interviewing Mowrer's family, friends and neighbors to find out if they saw anything suspicious in the area.
This is the second murder in the neighborhood in roughly a year and a half. In March 2010, Jane Bullard, a teacher at Murray State College was raped and murdered in her nearby home.
Brown said she doesn't think the crimes were related, but it's always important for residents to keep an eye out for any suspicious activity.
"Always be aware of your surroundings, always close yours doors, don't open your doors to anyone you don't know. Always be suspicious, this is it. That's not the way we want to live, but unfortunately this is how we have to live these days," she said.
If you have any information, state agents ask that you call the OSBI hotline at 1-800-522-8017.
