ADA, OK -- Instead of having lunch with his classmates, one Ada kindergartener got to spend his lunch time with Ada Police Officers.

Five-year-old, Traeton Bonner was picked up from school at the Ada Early Childhood Center, got to ride in a police car, and was treated to lunch at Mazzio's.

Bonner was the only student from his school to donate candy to last week's Halloween Safe House, and for that, Ada Police wanted to reward him.

Officer Jaron Ballagh says it's important to reach out to the community, especially young children, and show them the positives of being a police officer.

"They get to kind of see what our job is like if they want to be a policeman in the future," Ballagh said. "They get to see the radios, lights, sirens, and stuff. Also it helps give a positive outlook on our job and what we do, and helps them understand it all around."

Ballagh says the police department is considering hosting this community outreach event with students once a month.
