ARDMORE, OK--Three legislators are combining forces to support volunteer firefighters in rural Oklahoma. Senators Frank Simpson, Don Barrington, and Patrick Anderson recently announced their opposition to a senate bill that would eliminate a tax benefit for rural volunteer firefighters.
Senator Simpson said they are now working to restore the 2 to 4 hundred dollar tax credit given to volunteer firefighters to cover training, time away from work, and other expenses.
Senator Simpson said cutting the credit will shy away volunteer firefighters who play an important role in rural Oklahoma. The bill is an effort to save the state money and will have to be heard before the senate deadline this Friday.
