SHERMAN, TX -- For years, United Way of Grayson County has raised funds for local charities and non-profit agencies. The organization held its annual meeting Tuesday to share its most recent accomplishments.

Donors, supporters and volunteers met at the Sherman municipal ballroom to recognize members for excellence in community service.

The organization surpassed its goal to raise $1.3 million for charities like North Texas Youth Connection, an office that aids homeless, runaway and abused or neglected kids. Chief Advancement Officer, Dr. Jan Elias says United Way offers more than just funding.

"They help us in other ways too because they have training that is offered that helps our organization to become a better organization. Also, they've helped us get our name out into the community," said Elias.

United Way of Grayson County's 2011 Campaign Chair Patrick Rowland says meeting their annual goal was a team effort, not just within the organization, but within the community.

"It's a community support group," said Rowland. "United Way is united we stand. 'Live united' is a motto but if you look people are actually helping their neighbors."

KXII is a proud sponsor of United Way of Grayson County which has 24 programs and supports 18 agencies.
