SHERMAN, TEXAS -- Sherman police honored one of their longtime officers today.

Lt. Ken Brooks is retiring.

He started with the department in 1994 and has served as a patrol officer, shift supervisor and hostage negotiator, as well as in the narcotics and criminal investigation divisions.

He says his most memorable case was the bus crash in August of 2008, which killed 17 people.

Brooks says the city of Sherman has changed a lot under his watch.

"It's a bigger, better, more progressive place. I like Sherman a lot. Hate to leave, but I've got something else to do somewhere else now," Brooks said.

Brooks will now move to Virginia to be with his family.
