SHERMAN, TEXAS -- Prayers and balloons were uplifted at Sherman High School Sunday night in memory of the school's former basketball star, 19-year-old Quaylin Hayden, and his friend, 23-year-old Floyd Clegg. The two were shot and killed in Hugo late Saturday night.
Jasmine Wrenn is grieving, as both Hayden's girlfriend, and the mother of his future child.
"He was such a good person. Words can't even explain how good he was," Wrenn said.
The OSBI is searching for Dawaylon Bernard Rainey, the man accused of shooting and killing Clegg and Hayden, at a Southwind Acres apartment.
"I heard what sounded like glass breaking or somebody banging on something," neighbor Felicia Davidson said.
Neighbors say they saw people going in and out of the apartment earlier that night, until gunshots rang out.
"That's when I heard the 'bam bam bam bam bam,'" neighbor Francis Walker said.
"I was talking to my friend and I was fixing to go home and then we heard these shots. Sounded like firecrackers," David Lewis said.
Lewis was down the street when he heard the shots and ran to assist his 77-year-old mother, who lives across from the scene of the crime.
"Both streets were blocked here with ambulances, police cars, deputy sheriffs," Lewis said.
Cody Morgan also ran -- panicked -- to his girlfriend's mom's apartment right next door.
"Big enough gun, it could've went through the wall, you know, possibly, and maybe hit, like I said, her, her grandson, my girlfriend, me," Cody Morgan said.
Back in Sherman, family and friends of both young men are pulling together in their loss.
"It was kind of a tragedy for us right now so we're all trying to stay strong," Wrenn said.
