BONHAM, TX -- Kelso Technologies, a nationwide industry, broke ground on a $2.4 million expansion at its manufacturing facility Tuesday.
City officials say the move will eventually bring in 150 quality jobs to the area.
CEO Neil Gambow said one of the main reasons they're locating their new 100,000 square foot facility here is because of the location.
"It's centrally located to our major customers. And that's was a plus we hadn't considered," Gambow.
Kelso currently employs 28 people. But they plan to at least have 50 employees when they open the new facility, Gambow said.
"What I consider high level jobs," he said. "Not only employees that are highly trained, they get their certifications from us. They're certified by the rail industry. We also are bringing professional jobs in engineering, that sort of thing."
Right now, all of Kelso's manufacturing - which consists of parts for railway shipping - is done in Bonham.
"So we're gonna be bringing not only people and jobs here. We're gonna be bringing a lot of people here and exposing them to Bonham. And Bonham is in a terrific place. It's right at the heart of the rail industry," Gambow said.
As Kelso breaks ground on its major investment, Floyd hopes this commitment will spark interest from other industries as well.
"That's what we're working for. We had several industries here, we've got 3 new industries right now that are looking at Bonham. It helps out Bonham economically. And it helps our people in so many ways," he said.
Kelso expects to have the new building completed and have the facilities up and running in June of next year.
