SHERMAN, TX - A Sherman man is behind bars accused of trying to set a mailbox on fire.

59 year old Edward Wayne Shugart has been arrested and charged with felony arson. A witness called police Just before midnight on Monday when they say they saw Shugart light a piece of paper on fire and put it in the mailbox mounted outside of Ailene's Beauty Shop on South Walnut.
Officers say Shugart left the scene but they found him shortly after.
He was booked into the Grayson county jail.

Police say they don't believe this incident is connected with the rash of wildfire arsons in the area. "It's not to say that any of these grass fires that we've had in recent history are related to this one person," said Sherman Police Sgt. Bruce Dawswy, "but of course officers will be looking into that."

The fire didn't cause any major damage and no one was hurt.
