SHERMAN, TX - Many people will be buying Christmas trees and wreaths over the next few weeks. Jalah Gray shows us how those purchases can help fund a good cause.
Executive Director, Kathey Scott, says around the holidays Meals on Wheels is busier than ever.
"The need increases, and especially around this time of year, you don't want to think about someone being cold and hungry," said Scott.
Scott says since the need increases every year, they need help more than ever.
"We served last month, no September, 7200 meals funded with local funds, the state and federal money is tight, that doesn't increase but the need does increase." Scott said.
This year Meals on Wheels is having their first ever Green 2 Green fundraiser. For every real Christmas Tree or Wreath purchased online, 10 dollars will go to Meals on Wheels which will feed 2 more people.
"We're hoping that as we get closer to Christmas and people are beginning to decorate, that they will take advantage of this," said Scott.
Each one of these trees or wreaths purchased through Green to Green not only helps Meals on Wheels continue to feed those in need, but it supports the environment as well.
"Just beautiful green color, and the bow and everything, it's just gorgeous." Bette Pittman said.
Bette Pittman bought a Green 2 Green wreath. She says since she'd be spending the money anyway, she's happy to put it to a good cause.
"Oh it made me feel good, I was glad that I could help someone needy," said Pittman.
