SHERMAN, TEXAS -- A Texas-based grocer is looking into setting up shop in Sherman.

Tuesday night, the Sherman Planning and Zoning Commission approved a site plan for Brookshire's.

The grocer is expressing interest in building a more than 42,000 square foot store, with a pharmacy and gas station, at the corner of 1417 and Washington.

Brookshire's opened a similar grocery store in Pottsboro in March.

Scott Shadden, with the city, says this site plan approval is a preliminary step in the building process.

"Brookshire's would have to purchase the land and then apply for their building permits and then get a plan reviewed and the building would be started," Shadden said.

Brookshire's released this statement, "Brookshire's is currently in discussions with city officials and a local developer to explore the possibility of bringing a Brookshire's to Sherman. We hope that we will have something to announce soon."
