DURANT, OK -- One of the highest honors for military cadets was bestowed on a North Texas woman tonight.
Cadet Captain Miranda Ellinghaus received the Amelia Earhart award Monday night at the Durant Regional Airport.
Cadets who earn the award must pass leadership and aerospace exams and a physical fitness test. The Texas native says she was thrilled to be chosen and to take part in the ceremony held at the cadet's training facility.
"It feels pretty good because there's only five precent of cadets like in the entire program that get to get captain and I'm honored to be one of them," Ellinghaus said.
Ellinghaus is now qualified to try for the General Ira C. Eaker award.
The namesake of Durant's Eaker field.
