ARDMORE, OK - Labor day means lakes and barbeques for most, but for some it still means work.
The first Monday of September is a nationally recognized holiday that began in 1884 and it is designed to celebrate the hard working Americans.
Although many workers do get the holiday off work, several businesses around the country decide to stay open, one of them is the Marquis Furniture store in Ardmore.
Donna Stinson works sales at Marquis Furniture and said she never expects to get Labor Day off work because the store has always been open the first Monday in September.
Stinson admitted things like shopping and the lake do sound fun, she does not mind being at work because remaining open gives the store an advantage.
"We're here today because it's a holiday," Stinson said. "We do real well on holidays. We are doing tax free and we have been busy."
Most stores in Ardmore were closed today but for Stinson and the Marquis Furniture store employees, this Labor Day brought in even more customers than last.
