Johnston County, OK -- OSBI is investigating after they say it appears, 14 year old Ross Whitmire, shot his grandmother to death, who lived close by, then proceeded to turn the gun on himself in his own home Monday afternoon.

"It's just insane. That's all I can say. It's just insane."

Lon Dean, a friend of the deceased woman, says nobody ever saw any signs of violence or strife within the family.

"All the Whitmire's are just sweet people, every one of them." says Dean.

Another friend, Floretta Wooten, says the woman loved her grandson and will be missed greatly.

"She'd just do anything for anybody" Wooten said.

OSBI public information officer, Jessica Brown, says they received a call for assistance yesterday from the Johnston County Sheriff's department after deputies received a call from neighbors who found the woman shot in the head.

"We believe the neighbors went to the home earlier than that, earlier in the afternoon and found this scene, called deputies, deputies actually went to a home nearby and found the 14 year old child with the self-inflicted gunshot wound."

Brown says while they think the boy killed his grandmother, then himself, official cause and manner of death will come from the medical examiner's office.

"Everything at this point in time indicted this is a murder suicide..but the ultimate decision comes from the medical examiner's office because they will look at trajectory of bullets, any gunshot residue and such." says Brown.

Meanwhile friends and neighbors are grieving in this small Johnston County community.

"She was a sweetheart. just the sweetest woman you'd ever want to meet" said Lon Dean.
