OU freshman class largest ever, school says

NORMAN, Okla. (AP) - The University of Oklahoma is welcoming its largest freshman class in school history.

OU President David Boren greeted the new students Thursday at the annual New Sooner Convocation. Boren says the freshman class of more than 4,100 students is the largest ever in the university's history.

The Norman Transcript reports (http://is.gd/ZDiOQx) that the new class includes more than 190 National Merit Scholars and more than 300 State Regent Scholars. Boren says one out of every nine incoming freshmen graduated high school with a 4.0 grade point average.

Classes begin Monday at the university.
