Off-duty Delta Co. Game Warden shot while hunting

DELTA COUNTY, TX -- An off-duty Delta County Game Warden was shot during a hunting trip Sunday night.

Sheriff Ricky Smith says Chris Fried was off-duty and bow hunting at the Cooper Wildlife Management area when he was shot around 6 pm.

Officials say the bullet entered through his chest and lodged in his left arm. Fried was able to call 911 and was taken by ambulance to Hopkins County Memorial Hospital and then later transferred to Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas. He was last listed in stable condition.

Sheriff Smith says investigators have interviewed several people and believe the incident was an accident. The investigation is ongoing.
