DELTA COUNTY, Texas - The void left from Reserve Delta County Deputy Kevin Wingfield, Jr's death is far more than just a vacant position to be filled at the Sheriff's Office.
"It's a hole you can't replace, you can't fill. He had a uniqueness to his self that he brought to work." said dispatcher and jailor Brent Beshaer. "The spot will never be filled."
"He was a good person, he was good employee and he will be missed here." said Sheriff Ricky Smith.
28-year-old Wingfield was killed in a single car accident around four Tuesday afternoon at the intersection of FM 71 and FM 1536, outside of Tira.
Officials believe Wingfield had a seizure while behind the wheel causing the accident, but an autopsy is being performed to determine the exact cause of death.
Wingfield worked in Delta County for almost a year and has been in law enforcement for seven years.
"We're a small department." said Smith. "We're very close in this department and we all grieved that we lost one of ours."
Wingfield also served as a volunteer fireman in Tira and leaves behind his fiance Jennifer and an eight year old son Steven.
His colleagues say while Wingfield may be gone, he won't be forgotten.
"He will be missed, he's always going to be in our hearts." said Beshaer. "He will be missed, we love him."
The Delta County Sheriff’s Department is assisting his family by collecting donations to help with expenses.
