SHERMAN, TX-- "Our goal this year was $1,325,000 and our actually number is "$1,353, 358."
The Grayson County companies and employees who raised that $1.35 million were recognized by the United Way of Grayson County and all the organizations that will benefit from their donations
"United Way supports 18 agencies, this is a fund raising event to raise funds to support those agencies," Patrick Rowland, campaign chair, said.
Non-profits from across Grayson County rely on the United way for funding.
They'll all receive a portion of the money raised by local businesses and employees.
"People who give to united way are helping out there friends and neighbors and even family members. Most people in this room today either have used an agency or have friends or a family member that uses an agency," Rowland said.
Several companies took part in this year's fund raising campaign, one of those, Texas Health Presbyterian, WNJ, won the award for Best Overall Campaign.
Teri Stewart, who works at WNJ, says they set up fun events within the hospital to encourage employees to give.
"Really what we did, we tried to communicate with our employees that if every one of us gave $100 or 27 cents per day, we would have a very successful campaign."
WNJ raised $35,000, double from their donation last year.
Other businesses like, Dr. Pepper Snapple Group won the award for "highest per capita giving" and Caterpillar won for "largest dollar increase."
But the real winners are the people who depend on the United Way and it's agencies.
"The people in Grayson County are so generous and are willing to help each other out, that they are willing to open their pocket books.
