DENISON, TX -- The owner of the old Denison Ward School went to the city council Monday night asking them to take the building off the demolition list.
Nearly a month ago, the council voted to tear down the structure.
Calling it a danger to the public.
The council said they couldn't discuss his request Monday night, because the topic was not on the agenda.
Owner James Roa said he's fixed most of the hazards, such as removing most of the broken glass from the windows, falling bricks and rebuilding the chimney to look like a chess piece.
James Roa said, "I had to get on top of the chimney about 25 feet high and all I had was the ladder and my hammer and a chisle to remove brick by brick and I had to do it very slowly because the hole goes down about 50 feet."
Roa says he's spent about $5,000 dollars on the repairs.
His dream is to turn the old school into a Benjamin Franklin Castle.
A multicultural center and chess academy.
