DICKSON, OK - Jennifer and Shane Ellis have two children in Dickson High School. That's why they've requested an audit of Dickson Public Schools.

"Make sure that everything is where it needs to be and that our teachers and our students are being taken care of properly," said Jennifer.

The two parents said they didn't have a specific reason to ask for the audit but said they had questions about the legitimacy of operations after charges of rape were filed on former teacher and coach, Stephanie Ringwald and her mother, superintendent Sherry Howe, stepped down amid the controversy.

"Just the concern of the community," said Shane. "We've had teachers even encouraging us to go through with this."

The state auditor and inspector's office said the Ellis' contacted them four weeks ago.

"They were able to focus what their specific concerns were and then they asked us prepare an audit which we are required to by law," said Gary Jones, state auditor and inspector.

The audit will review staff contracts and payroll for possible irregularities or misuse and review board policies regarding school activity fund accounts, use of school assets and the lease of a piece of district-owned property.

These Parents said they're glad the audit will happen.

"I want to make sure that all the funds are being appropriately used," said Dickson Schools parent Marla Stewart. "So I believe the audit is important."

Friday, Jennifer Ellis started collecting the 339 signatures she needs to petition for the audit--that's about 10 percent of Dickson's registered voters.

So far she has roughly 200 and said she isn't worried about reaching her goal.

"I don't think we're going to have a problem," Jennifer said. "The community is really supporting us. And we really do appreciate that because Dickson is a great community."
