PARIS, TX -- With the start of the school year next week, Paris ISD is beefing up campus security.
This morning the district introduced its new officers for their Safety and Security department, made up of six former law enforcement officers.
The school district added the department after parents raised concerns about student safety from shootings in schools nationwide.
"We are going to do everything we can from the time that their kids arrive at school until the time they go home, to make sure they are safe and make sure they are out of harms way." said school board president George Fisher. "Should the need arise we have someone that can take care of their kids. "
"It's just to have an extra sense that parents know their kids are going to a safe environment to learn and just take the ease off the parent's mind that they are going to a place that's added security and a place that they don't have to be concerned if something should happen." said Superintendent Paul Jones.
An officer will be stationed at each one of the Paris ISD campuses.
