PLATTER, OKLAHOMA -- Several Platter residents said Lee Fisher's home was a fixture in the community. But that century old home and all it's history, went up in flames this afternoon.

Platter resident, Judy Smith, was outside in her backyard Wednesday when

"I heard this loud boom," Smith said.

She rushed to her front door to see flames shooting out of her neighbor's home.

"It was already blazing. It was coming out the windows and every where by then," Smith said.

"We arrived on scene. There were flames coming out the front door and exiting some of the side windows of the house," assistant Fire Chief David Bray said. "We immediately attacked the fire both from the inside and from the outside."

But even with quick action, Cartwright assistant Fire Chief David Bray said the century old home is a total loss.

"You know, it's an older structure. Of course, any time you have an older structure on fire they burn fairly quickly," Bray said.

The home is more than 100 years old, with a lot of history. That is why the loss is hitting this close-knit Platter community hard.

"It's very upsetting because it's one of the oldest houses in the community and there's been a lot of family raised over there," Smith said.

The state fire marshal has been called in to investigate the cause of the fire.

The home belongs to Lee Fisher, who was not there when the fire broke out. He was too distraught to speak on camera, but immediately after the fire, neighbors had already planned a trip to a store to get Mr. Fisher some new clothes.

Smith says they will be there for him every step of the way

"Everybody will pitch in in Platter and help him. That's just the community that we are," Smith said.

Fisher lost everything in that fire. If you'd like to help, you can make a donation to the Platter Baptist Church.
