ADA, OK - A Pontotoc County jail official resigns after he was reportedly caught sending an inappropriate text message to a former female inmate.

Pontotoc County Sheriff John Christian said the text message was sent by a male jailer to a former female inmate.

He said the message talked about how the jailer watched her shower while she was incarcerated at the Pontotoc County Justice Center and suggested to two meet up.

Christian calls the message inappropriate and said it was brought to his attention by the former inmate.

He said after confronting the jailer about the text, the jailer resigned.

Christian said the incident happened two months ago. He said he didn't go public with the information until now simply because no one has asked until now.

Christian said he does not allow his jail officials to have a personal relationship with a current or former inmate.

He also said there are shower curtains in the jail and the inmates are provided with towels to cover themselves.

"This young lady, I dont believe just from talking to her, that she did anything inappropriate," Christian said. "I don't believe he saw her showering other than that you can just see someone is in the shower."

Christian said the jailer resigned because he violated the county jail's policy.

Since he has not been charged with a crime, the jailers name has not been released.
